Information Technology Programs
The Information Technology
Program (IT) is designed to teach students the skills
necessary for employment in the information field. Students may select a one-year or a two-year
curriculum. The two-year program allows the student to
choose an emphasis in networking, web design, computer
repair, help desk operation or a general IT degree. Click
HERE to see the
IT Program layout.
The IT program provides students with
occupational experiences designed to foster practical skills
in approved business settings. Related job possibilities
include: database design, database administration, customer
help desk, telecommunications, Internet and Intranet web
page design, and network administration.
The Information Technology Program is located in the Technical Center Computer Lab
building. The lab functions as a classroom as well as
a lab, offering a full range of current computer
applications, programming, networking, web design and
computer maintenance. The lab houses cutting edge
computers with high speed internet access. In
addition, the Cisco Networking Academy is located within the
Technical Center Computer Lab. Lab monitors are
available for your assistance. Lab hours are determined each
year by the Technical Center Computer Lab faculty.
Cisco Networking Academy and Sponsored Curriculum

If you haven’t heard of Cisco Systems yet, you soon will.
Cisco is the undisputed worldwide leader in networking
equipment for the Internet. Cisco manufactures
routers, switches access servers, and network management
software designed to interconnect Local Area Networks (LAN)
and Wide Area Networks (WAN) around the globe.
The Cisco Networking Academy
Program teaches students valuable Internet technology
skills, including networking, Web design, IT Essentials,
Cabling, Java and UNIX. The Academy Curriculum covers a
broad range of topics from basics on how to build a network
to how to build a website and more complex IT concepts such
as applying advanced troubleshooting tools.
The Cisco Networking Academy
Program at Dodge City Community College started in
the Fall of 2000 and is creating the IT professionals needed
to design, configure, and operate the LANs and WANs of
tomorrow. The program is designed as a complete,
four-semester curriculum. The curriculum includes
instruction on installing, configuring, and operating
simple-routed LAN, routed WAN, and switched LAN networks.
After completion of the program, students are prepared and
encouraged to sit for the Cisco Certified Network
Associate (CCNA) exam.
The Cisco Sponsored Curriculum
consists of the Hewlett-Packard sponsored IT Essentials
classes and the Adobe sponsored Fundamentals of Web Design
class.
IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and
Software, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Company,
presents an in-depth exposure to computer hardware and
operating systems. Students learn the functionality of
hardware and software components as well as suggested best
practices in maintenance, and safety issues.
IT Essentials II: Network
Operating Systems, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard
Company, is an intensive introduction to multi-user,
multi-tasking network operating systems. These courses help
students prepare for CompTIA's A+ certification.
Fundamentals of Web Design
sponsored by Adobe Systems will focus on the overall
production processes surrounding web site design with
particular emphasis on design elements involving layout,
navigation and interactivity.
The World Organization of Webmasters (WOW) has
created a certification for Certified Web Designer
Apprentice (CWDSA). The "Fundamentals of Web Design"
course, sponsored by Adobe Systems, will help prepare
students to take this certification exam.
